The Pricey Cream Dilemma

Anti-aging luxury skincare — is it worth the splurge?

I’ve made many attempts to fall in love with high-end anti-aging skincare. Oh yes — the packaging alone gives you a small aesthetic thrill. The scent is divine, the texture silky and sophisticated… and if that’s all you expect for the price, fair enough.

But I wanted more. I wanted lifting, smoothing, radiance — all the things that elegant jar quietly promised.

After trying one brand after another and seeing no visible results, I started to think it was my fault. Maybe I’d simply picked the wrong product — or used it wrong. After all, it’s Chanel (or Givenchy, Shiseido, insert any prestigious name here). Surely, with all that research and patent money, it had to work.

My doubts finally surfaced when one Chanel anti-wrinkle cream arrived with a detailed self-massage guide. I ignored it — assuming that a cream costing that much should work without my manual labor.

Now I realize: that was the actual secret. The so-called “luxury effect” came not from the cream, but from the lymphatic drainage massage instructions I never bothered to follow. Back then, I had no idea what that even was. So I kept dutifully rubbing pricey anti-aging formulas into my face, still jumping at my own photos and mirror reflections.

The takeaway

Very expensive anti-aging creams don’t work — at least not better than regular ones. You can find a nice scent and pleasant texture in far cheaper brands… but should you even bother looking?

A cream, no matter how luxurious, won’t stop aging. That’s just a fact. But I didn’t give up. I cleared all the anti-aging jars off my vanity and found other ways to restore and maintain youth — no creams, needles, surgeries, or chemistry involved.

But that’s a story for other articles.
